A local company was issued a BND2,000 compound fine by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) yesterday for littering on public premises.

The department discovered that the company had disposed scrap wood and metals in a public area in Kampong Jangsak, and issued a fine to the company for violating Chapter 12 (1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.

The company has been given seven days to settle the fine, and failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.

If the company is found guilty, it will face a fine of BND2,000 and no more than BND10,000 for the first offence, and a fine of at least BND10,000 and no more than BND30,000, imprisonment of no more than 12 months or both for subsequent offences.

The department also reminded the public, especially companies and commercial premise owners, to maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not to dispose of rubbish in public space. – Daniel Lim
