Companies fined for littering

Three companies have been fined by by the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board for disposing of rubbish at public premises.

A company was recently discovered to have disposed of used mineral bottles, cement sacks and cardboard boxes, in a public area at Kampong Pandan ‘A’, and was fined BND1,000 for violating Chapter 12 (1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021.

Two other companies were fined BND1,000 each for neglecting to maintain the manholes, resulting sewage flowing into the public drainage.

Meanwhile, a company was slapped with a BND1,000 fine by the Tutong District Office for disposing of used engine oil in public areas.

These companies are given seven days to settle the fines, and failure to do so will result in the cases being brought to court.

If found guilty, the companies would face between BND2,000 and BND10,000 in fine for the first offence, and between BND10,000 and BND30,000 in fine, jail term of no more than 12 months, or both, for subsequent offences. – Daniel Lim & James Kon
