The Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) received business zakat contributions totalling BND86,598.94 from two companies during a handover ceremony yesterday.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, who also serves as MUIB Vice President, received the contributions from Al-Bukhari Sdn Bhd and Koperasi Persatuan Tiba (KOTIBA) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA).
Al-Bukhari contributed BND30,102.50 represented by its Business Manager Fakhri Alam, while KOTIBA’s Board Chairman Haji Matassan bin Haji Bungso handed over BND59,496.44.
Permanent Secretary at the MoRA Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoRA Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim and Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religion) at the MoRA Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar, MUIB Acting Secretary Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sabtu, and Zakat, Waqaf and Baitulmal
Management Department Acting Director Pengiran Dr Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit were also present.
Business zakat is a mandatory contribution for eligible companies across sectors such as retail, import and export, services, hospitality, and food industries.
The funds collected are distributed to eligible recipients in accordance with Islamic teachings. – Fadley Faisal
