Community events were held yesterday to mark the new year 1446 Hijrah.
The Mukim and Village Consultative Council of Kilanas organised a walkathon after Subuh prayers to mark the new Hijrah year.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who is also Patron I of Kampong Kilanas Mosque Takmir Committee joined the walkathon.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Amran bin Haji Maidin, who is the Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas was also present.
The walkathon aimed to glorify the new Hijrah year, following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and strengthen community ties.
The event began with a religious talk by Haji Muhammad Rafee Shahif from Universiti Brunei Darussalam followed by a warm-up exercise.
The walk covered one kilometre, starting at Kampong Kilanas Mosque and ending at Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque.
Meanwhile, the mosque takmir committee of STKRJ Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria Mosque, along with local residents, commemorated new year 1446 Hijrah on Sunday.
The activities at STKRJ Lorong Tiga Selatan Seria Mosque were held after Subuh prayer with talks on the celebration of the new year.
After sunrise, attendees participated in an aerobic exercise and a brief walkathon around the village.
