Community aid initiative reaches 100 homes

Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) recently concluded its annual Sirah Amal programme for the 15th consecutive year, welcoming the arrival of the blessed month of Ramadhan.

This year, over 120 employees banded together, visiting 100 houses across the nation to distribute essential relief supplies. The contributions, which included shopping vouchers and employee donations of food and Hari Raya Aidilfitri necessities, were designed to alleviate the recipients’ preparations for Ramadhan and the upcoming Syawal celebration.

Recipients included BIBD Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future (BIBD ALAF) students (60 houses) and underprivileged muallafs (40 houses), identified in collaboration with the Islamic Da’wah Centre at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“As we conclude another successful Sirah Amal, we are reminded that true prosperity lies in sharing our blessings,” said BIBD Chief Marketing Officer Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Mohd Jaafar.

“This initiative is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to Maqasid Syariah, specifically the preservation of social justice and the fostering of a compassionate community. By extending a helping hand to those in need, we are actively contributing to a more equitable and harmonious society,” she added.

“BIBD will continue to strengthen its commitment towards aligning our efforts with Brunei Vision 2035 and the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our comprehensive approach to sustainability, encompassing both social and environmental responsibility, underscores our commitment to creating a lasting positive impact. Through initiatives such as Sirah Amal and our continued support of programmes like Radio Television Brunei’s (RTB) Jalinan Kasih, we are building a stronger, more resilient community and nation.”

The Sirah Amal programme commenced on February 21 in the Brunei-Muara District and expanded to all four districts. The initiative was led by the bank’s senior management and involved active participation from staff at all levels. BIBD continues to emphasise the importance of holistic sustainability, encompassing social welfare and environmental stewardship.

BIBD also supported RTB Jalinan Kasih programme on February 26, reinforcing its staff’s dedication to community development and social welfare, especially in this blessed month of Ramadhan, where charity receives multifold of rewards.

BIBD’s commitment to supporting Brunei’s underprivileged communities through initiatives like its Sirah Amal programme and its partnership with RTB’s Jalinan Kasih goes beyond simple charity. These actions are deeply rooted in the dedication to fostering a more equitable and sustainable future for Brunei Darussalam, aligning directly with the UN SDGs.

BIBD’s commitment to social responsibility is deeply rooted in the belief that a sustainable future is one where everyone has the opportunity to prosper. By investing in the well-being of the community, BIBD is laying the foundation for a more just and sustainable future for Brunei Darussalam, supporting the goals of Brunei Vision 2035, by helping to create a dynamic and resilient economy.
