Coldplay to retire after two more albums – Chris Martin

(ANN/DAILY INQUIRER) – Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin has announced the band’s plans to retire after releasing 12 albums, as they prepare for the release of their 10th album, Moon Music, on October 4.

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Martin confirmed that the band will only produce 12 albums in total. “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah, I promise,” he said, adding that limiting their discography allows for higher quality control and creativity. “Less is more,” Martin emphasised.

He explained that the decision is inspired by musical icons such as The Beatles and Bob Marley, who also had limited releases. “Having that limit means the quality control is so high right now… so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve,” Martin added.

Although the band will stop producing new albums, Martin hinted at potential side projects with bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion in the future. Despite the impending retirement, Martin expressed that the band currently has “more joy than ever,” attributing their renewed appreciation to aging, the pandemic, and global events.

Martin first hinted at the band’s retirement plans in 2021, stating that Coldplay would release their final album in 2025 and focus more on touring.

Coldplay is best known for hits like Viva La Vida, Yellow, and Fix You.
