Some 17 young coffee aficionados learnt the intricacy of brewing coffee during a workshop on ‘A Day Barista Coffee Basic’ at the Youth Centre at Jalan Bunga Rambai, Kuala Belait yesterday.
The Belait District Branch of the Youth and Sports Department organised the workshop and invited local barista Md Izzat bin Ismail, who co-founded homegrown cafe Bicara Coffee in Seria, to teach participants the basics of brewing coffee.
Md Izzat shared tips and tricks he gained as a barista and the skills and knowledge needed in brewing coffee through theoretical discussions followed by practical showcases.
He demonstrated the uses of the knowledge and how to apply them to properly grind and brew the various types of coffee popular in Brunei as a barista.
Participant Muhammad Ryyan Issac bin Edy Asmyra said; “This workshop was quite interesting as it delved into the intricacy of brewing coffee, from the grain selection to how to properly brew the coffee for an even and consistent taste.”
He said he has always been interested in brewing coffee, especially with the rising trend on social media in showcasing not only the coffee brewing but also creative latte art.
He also said he plans on using skills he acquired at the workshop by turning coffee brewing into a hobby. – Daniel Lim
