The Training for Trainers National Coaches Training Pencak Silat, Certified National Coach organised by the Brunei Darussalam Pencak Silat Federation (PERSIB) came to a close at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium Silat Arena yesterday.
A total of 53 participants representing various teams including the four districts, Co-Curriculum Department, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council, Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council, and Sports School Council attended the coaching course.
Conducted by internationally certified coach Tulus Priyadi, the three-day long course aimed to update participants, coaches and wasit juri on the new rules of pencak silat which was revised last year.
PERSIB President Pengiran Haji Abdul Karim bin Pengiran Haji Metassan said, “Through the initiative of the Steering Committee or Taskforce of International Federation which is to update on the old rules, the international coaching course was held in February 2023 whereby Brunei is participated by three members.”
He added that participants must attain the Certified National Certificate in order to compete.
He added, “The previous certificate which was in place 40-50 years ago cannot be used anymore and is not valid since 2020.”
Meanwhile, Tulus said that the course aimed to follow up the new rules to convey to the potential athletes and to apply in their districts and organisations.
He also shared the changes in latest rules especially on what is allowed during the middle of the match. The course also included a session on the organisational structure of the task force; session on ‘Pencak Silat Goes to Olympics’; physical training; rules and regulations; and coaching. – Fadhil Yunus
