In an effort to continue teaching Islamic religious knowledge to converts, the Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) through the Muallaf Development Division has taken steps to establish a platform for guiding converts, said PDI Acting Assistant Director Haji Ahmad Abdussalam bin Haji Abdul Rahman during the officiating of Al-Qur’an Tarannum class for converts and the converts guidance class for Sengkurong branch yesterday.

The Al-Qur’an Tarannum class is an advanced course that teaches Al-Quran recitation using different tones, melodies and rhythms, led by experienced teachers.

Haji Ahmad Abdussalam encouraged converts to take advantage of these classes and seek guidance from their teachers when needed to guarantee proper adherence to Islamic practices in their daily lives.

He hoped that through these classes, converts will improve their Al-Quran recitation skills, and some may even represent Brunei in future Al-Quran competitions.

Head of the Muallaf Development Division Datin Dr Hajah Rohanita binti Haji Yaakub shared that the first converts guidance class began in 1985 to teach Islamic knowledge, Al-Quran recitation as well as Fardhu ‘Ain and Fardhu Kifayah.

She added, there are now 18 class locations across the Sultanate, including urban, rural and online platforms while some include mosques and private homes. Some 36 skilled supervising teachers are assigned to these lifelong learning classes, which differ from other PDI programmes. The Al-Quran Tarannum Class, launched to help converts with advanced Al-Quran recitation, aims to prepare them for national and regional competitions. The programme also helps participants improve their recitation and tajweed skills. The ceremony was also attended by Penghulu of Mukim Sengkurong Haji Abdullah Hanif bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Dinda Haji Saman. – Lyna Mohamad
