Some 504 individuals officially became Brunei Darussalam citizens yesterday following the 39th citizenship certificate presentation ceremony at the Bridex Conference Hall in Jerudong.
Several recipients shared their excitement and appreciation for the citizenship.
Businessman Haji Mohd Fadillah bin Haji Abdul Wahab received the certificate on behalf of his daughter Nur Syasya Farah Dayana. He said, “I am thankful and blessed that my 15-year-old daughter is officially a Brunei citizen. I want to thank His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the government for this gift to my daughter who just celebrated her birthday, on November 5.”
Mohamad Shalahudeen bin Haji Mohamed Maideen shared his excitement when he got a phone call to attend the ceremony. He recalled, “My wife received the call and I wasn’t expecting a notification to attend the ceremony. My heart was beating so fast when I received the letter from the Immigration and National Registration Department.”
The Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College teacher said, “Alhamdulillah, I am now a Brunei citizenship recipient, after a long wait. It’s hard to describe my feelings. I am grateful to Allah the Almighty for me becoming a citizen and I want to thank His Majesty. As a father, this will benefit my children.”
Helyati binti Haji Mahmud Saedon is grateful for her child receiving Brunei citizenship. “My first two children received citizenship in previous years and this time it’s my third child. I am grateful to His Majesty for granting us citizenship.” – James Kon
