Honey Carsmart were crowned winners in the Open Cup category of the CHSK Badminton Cup 2022 held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 76th birthday after edging out Youth Team 5-4 in the final at the CHSK Badminton Court in Kiudang, Tutong District on Friday.
The new champions earned hard-fought victories in the mixed doubles event and the women doubles en route to the title.
Honey Carsmart, runners-up in the CHSK Badminton Cup 2021 last March, overcame an inspired Youth Team in a 18-21 22-20 21-17 win in the mixed doubles’ event.
The women doubles’ category was evenly-contested, but Honey Carsmart hung on to clinch a vital 21-19 21-23 21-14 victory.
The champions also scored three points in the men’s doubles matches.
The runners-up secured points in the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and two mixed doubles matches to ensure a close fight in the title decider.
Meanwhile, High Commissioner of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam Heng Aik Yeow led SG Pure Fresh to victory in the Veteran Cup after defeating Kiudang Nike 4-1 in the best-of-seven final.
In the Student Cup final, the TST Team emerged victorious after a 4-0 win over AIA BR-Kelvin Pong.
Acting Tutong District Officer Ajmin bin Haji Meludin presented prizes to the Veteran Cup and Open Cup winners while Heng Aik Yeow presented prizes for the Student Cup.
The competition was supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Home Affairs, Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association and the Tutong District Development and Creative Body.
