The Public Service Department, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Public Service Commission and the Civil Service Institute, hosted a charity recreation event at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday, in conjunction with the 30th Civil Service Day celebration.
This event began at 6.30am with a warm-up session, followed by a 5.7-kilometre (km) cycling activity, a 2.5-km walkathon for male participants and a 1.6-km walkathon for female participants, all starting and ending at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, as co-chair of the executive committee of the 30th Civil Service Day celebration, sounded off the cycling event while the men’s and women’s walkathons were kicked off by Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad.
Also in attendance were Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar and Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin.
The event also featured events at tents around the venue operated by ministries and government departments. Visitors had the chance to win prizes through games, quizzes and other activities as well as learn more about the ministries and government departments via exhibitions and displays.
Public members were also given the opportunity to assist the community in the form of ‘Recreation while Giving Back’ through shirt sales, with BND2 from each sale going to charity, as well as charity collection boxes provided. The funds raised will be channelled to various national charity organisations.
Prior to the charity event, mosque affairs officer Pengiran Ahmad Faris Ramadhani bin Pengiran Haji Sallehuddin and assistant lecturer at Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan Abdurahman bin Haji Ajak delivered a Tazkirah Subuh on ‘Excellent Service, Rooted in Faith’ at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque. – Adib Noor
