Charity hosts eye clinic in rural Belait

Residents living in the rural areas of Belait District were offered health checkups for their eyes and vision during an activity organised by the Lions Club of Belait on Monday.

Eight members of the Brunei Ophthalmology Society comprising ophthalmologists, optometrists and orthopists led by Dr Hajah Helena binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Hurairah attended to residents while six volunteers from the Lions Club, led by club Vice-President Johnny Cheong, conducted vision screening.

Reading classes were also handed out to residents who needed them, while those needing further eye checks were referred to VisionCare Kuala Belait.

The activity was organised by the club in collaboration with the Brunei Ophthalmology Society and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).

Major Ashok Rai and Captain Dawa Nuri Sherpa from the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR) of the British Forces Brunei (BFB) Garrison represented the DIO. – Daniel Lim
