ANN/THE STAR – Malaysia’s Miss Universe national costume for this year’s pageant, inspired by the Pahang Malay folktale of warrior princess Walinong Sari, is set to showcase the nation’s heritage on the global stage.

Malaysian beauty queen Sandra Lim will wear the piece, designed by Ezuwan Ismail, as she represents her country in the Miss Universe competition finals in Mexico City on November 16.

Speaking at a press conference, Lim shared her excitement about the creation. “When I first put it on, it made me feel so fierce, strong, and powerful,” she said.

Lim collaborated closely with Ezuwan, known for his designs for prominent Malaysian celebrities, including Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, Ziana Zain, and Rozita Che Wan, to bring the concept to life.

The entirely handmade costume took just three weeks to complete and weighs approximately 30 kilogrammes, standing at 1.77 metres tall.

Crafted from locally sourced fabrics, it features sulam tebuk embroidery, an intricate technique celebrating Malaysian artistry.

Alongside the national costume, Ezuwan also designed an evening gown and a “secret dress” for Lim, which will be unveiled during the competition.

A special on-stage reveal will add to the spectacle, symbolising Lim’s transformation from princess to warrior and embodying a balance of beauty and strength.
