Chainblock Gorgon emerged winners of the Tug-of-War Championship 2023 held in conjunction with the 77th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien on Sunday.
The dominant Chainblock team clinched the heavyweight category (680 kilogrammes (kg) total weight) title followed by runners-up Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PPDB) and Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) in third place.
Chainblock Illusi made it a second win for the local team after triumphing in the lightweight category (560kg total weight) followed by MS PPDB in second place and SPSS Tuggers in third.
Meanwhile, KB Bull Brothers ‘A’ won the under-19 youth category (500kg total weight) with fellow teammates KB Bull Brothers ‘B’ taking runners-up and Chainblock coming in third place.
The tournament was organised by the Brunei Darussalam Tug of War Association (BDTA).
Prizes for the competition were presented by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammad Ruzaini bin Pengiran Dr Haji Mohd Yakub. – Fadhil Yunus
