Chainblock Gorgon and Chainblock Illusi pulled their weight against competing teams during a tug-of-war tournament at the Municipal Field of Jalan Sultan Omar Ali, Seria recently.
The tournament organised by the RPN Kampong Panaga Village Consultative Council in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam saw 24 teams from across the nation competing.
“The teams competed in two categories, one the heavyweight category for teams weighing a combined total of 680 kilogrammes (kg); and the lightweight category for teams weighing a combined total of 560kg,” said Acting Village Head of RPN Kampong Panaga Mohd Arifin bin Abdullah.
Each category saw 12 teams competing, with two groups of four teams competing for the opportunity to advance to the semifinals.
The four teams that advanced from the lightweight category were Lobo Pullers, KB Bull Brothers B, SPSS Tugger, and Chainblock Illusi; while the heavyweight category saw Mengkubau United, MG 5, SPSS Tugger, and Chainblock Gorgon competing in the semifinals.
In the heavyweight category finals, Chainblock Gorgon won both tugs against SPSS Tugger.
MG 5 also performed in a similar fashion against Mengkubau United as the former pulled for a third-place win.
Meanwhile, Chainblock Illusi hauled a huge lead against SPSS Tugger after winning two rounds in the best of three tugs, while KB Bull Brothers B secured third place after winning against Lobo Puller.
Legislative Council (LegCo)member and penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman, the guest of honour, witnessed the final.
Also present were LegCo member Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann, as well as Mukim Penghulu and village heads from the surrounding area. – Daniel Lim
