The Youth Development Centre has implemented several initiatives to produce quality and skilled human resources, such as a review on the effectiveness of available courses in aligning with the needs of the industry and demands of job market, its assistant director Haswandi bin Haji Osman said.
He said this at a ceremony where 194 trainees from January 2021 and July 2021 intakes of the Youth Development Programme received certificates for completing their courses at the Youth Development Centre yesterday.
The recipients comprised those in vehicle body repairs, welding and fabrication, info-communications technology, culinary and banquet, pastry and confectionery, domestic plumbing, refrigeration and air-conditioning, fashion design and technology, beauty therapy, and AgroBIZ courses.
The ceremony also saw the presentation of excellence trainee award for January 2021 intake to Xan Mc Carity bin Bandang, who completed Level 1 Diploma in Accident Repair Vehicle Body, while the excellence trainee award for July 2021 intake went to Maratus Saleha binti Mat Salleh, who received Level 2 Diploma in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts.
Maratus Saleha said, “I am grateful to the teachers for their patience especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Her advice to other trainees is: “Never give up, and do a lot of research by doing revisions and taking care of your mental health.”
Maratus Saleha is working as a commis cook at Royal Brunei Culinary (Brunei LNG, Lumut).
Meanwhile, Xan Mc Carity advised, “to have a clear dream so it is easier to plan everything ahead. Otherwise, our work will have no value and we will work our entire life without a purpose”. Xan Mc Carity is the owner of a car workshop business.
