The Tamil community of Kuala Belait celebrated Tamil Cultural Nite at the Pusat Insani Auditorium in Seria recently.
Families, youth and children from the Tamil community across the Belait District showed support dressed in traditional attire to commemorate the festive occasion.
The celebration opened with the Bruneian and Indian national anthems, with Organising Committee Chairman Loveline Gnanarathinam expressing gratitude on behalf of the community for the help in organising the event, as it is the first conducted after the pandemic.
High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Alok Amitabh Dimri expressed gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for the care of the community and prayed for the monarch’s good health and continued benevolence.
The high commissioner also encouraged the community and the youth to familiarise themselves with their heritage, culture and literature.
The celebration continued with traditional music, drama and dance performances on a stage decorated with ethnic regalia.
The performance also saw adaptations of Tamil epics and folk traditions performed by Tamil community members, with mementoes presented to the young choreographers and performers by the high commissioner.
General Secretary Murugan Moorthy delivered the vote of thanks.
