The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) recently launched the Malay Language Month Celebration at The Mall, Gadong.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad was the guest of honour.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem, recitation of Doa Selamat and a reading activity.
DBP Acting Director Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab delivered a welcoming speech, followed by the reading of the language pledge by Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) students, Bandar Seri Begawan, led by 2015 Language Ambassador Tan Been Tiem. Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Abdul Aziz bin Haji Hamdan delivered a poetry declamation.
The event proceeded with a speech by the guest of honour before launching the event.
National Speech Competition champion Muhammad Iqbaal Syakib bin Haji Suhib also delivered a speech. The event was enlivened with a silat performance by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School students.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the title of Language Ambassador, prizes, souvenirs and certificates of appreciation to khat jawi art competition, the children’s story book translation contest, the novel adaptation to stage drama script contest winners; judges; excellent students; show participants and sponsors.
The Malay Language Month Celebration 2023 supreme committee members, LegCo members, Brunei Darussalam Malay Language Standing Committee members, Southeast Asia Write Award Recipients (SEA Write Award), former director and deputy director of DBP, department heads, senior officers, writers and enthusiasts of language and literature were also in attendance.
