A senior immigration officer has denied all allegations involving corruption and graft as prosecutors finalised charges against him in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Senior Chief Immigration Officer Seruji bin Haji Setia, 52, is alleged to have received over BND2,000 worth of carpet gifts from a company connected with the official function of the defendant, who was at the time the head of the Work Pass Section, in January and April, 2022.
He is also alleged to have received sofa and car seat cushion covers from the same company sometime in February and April 2021.
The defendant is also being charged for corruption and graft in another case where he was alleged to have received a BND100 cash bribe from the manager of an employment agency in September 2022 for expediting the application process of work passes of foreign employees for another company.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Rozaimah Abdul Rahman drafted the charges out of a probe by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana Haji Abdul Rahman adjourned the case to March 16 for trial dates to be fixed.
Seruji, who is currently suspended from duties, is represented by defence counsel Ahmad Basuni Abas.
