Career development insight at open day

More than 150 participants attended Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF) Open Day 2024 held at the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

The open day, themed ‘Navigating Tomorrow’s Success’, saw industry practitioners exploring crucial topics such as personal development, leadership, and organisational culture.

The event began with opening remarks by BILIF Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Haji Afero Eswandy bin Haji Mohamad which highlighted their goal to inspire participants toward professional success.

BILIF CEO Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat delivered a keynote presentation titled ‘From Vision to Victory: Charting Your Course’, where she underscored the importance of effort, time, dedication, knowledge acquisition, adaptability and embracing opportunities and mistakes for success.

The open day featured an award ceremony for the Professional Diploma in Islamic Finance and Economics, where six participants were feted for their completion of the Leadership in Islamic Finance and Economics (LIFE) Common Core. The programme has been accredited and benchmarked at Level 4 of the United Kingdom (UK) Regulated Qualifications Framework by The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF).

The plenary panel discussion was moderated by BILIF’s Acting Senior Manager Ida Nazrena binti Haji Bujan which included sharing sessions on first impressions, building confidence, communication, time management and emotional intelligence for leaders. The panellists included Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Brunei CEO Pengiran Aki Ismasufian bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim, Workplace Asia Associate Facilitator and Society for Human Resource Management Associate Trainer, South East Asia Jacqueline Choy, Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) CEO Yusry Yusoff and Chapter One Asia Founder Dr Wendy Lee.

BILIF also hosted a career clinic providing guidance on skills development and exhibitions by Brunei Darussalam Central Bank and strategic partners. As part of their corporate social responsibility initiative, BILIF offered free booths to entrepreneurs under the Asnaf Zakat Empowerment Programme (PROPAZ), Islamic Da’wah Centre Muallafpreneurs Consortium, and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Special Entrepreneurial Empowerment and Development Scheme (BIBD SEED). – Rokiah Mahmud
