A parked SUV in Kampong Jangsak was damaged after its engine caught fire early Wednesday.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD), six firefighters from Beribi Fire Station Operation ’A’ Branch led by Acting DSO Mohd Rafie bin Abdul Latif responded to the incident at 4.43am. The fire was extinguished by the car owner before the firefighters’ arrival. The firefighters then extinguished the remaining fire.

The cause of the fire and the cost of damages are under investigation.

The FRD advised the public to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition and to regularly check the wiring.

They added that road users must ensure that modifications or additions to the electrical system of the engine and car accessories are in accordance with standards.

The FRD also said high electric current could cause cables to burn and advised the public to call 995 in cases of emergency.
