Bandar Seri Begawan came to life over the weekend as the populace thronged the capital to enjoy the festive night market in commemoration of the 76th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Roads leading to the capital were packed with vehicles, as the public’s payday period coincided with the Islamic new year of 1444 Hijrah public holiday on Saturday.

University student Batrisya Mustapha said she circled the capital for a half-hour to find a parking spot.

Liquid bubbles and colourful balloons added to the festive ambience as children crowded Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien. Around the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex and nearby areas, a wide array of food and beverages were on sale to suit every taste bud, including the ever-popular sotong tutuk and longan fruit.
