The High Commission of Canada in Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, organised a forum to exchange traditional knowledge on forestry and wood carving with local artisans recently. The event featured Canadian Indigenous artiste Jesse Fiddler from Northwestern Ontario.
Fiddler will conduct wood carving workshops for local students and teachers in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. He will also create a chainsaw carving using driftwood from Berakas Beach. Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Ambra Dickie expressed delight in hosting Fiddler in Brunei to share his passion for indigenous art while learning about Bruneian arts and crafts.
She said, “Art is a universal language, and I’m honoured that the high commission was able to foster this important connection between Canada and Bruneian traditions.”
