Cambodia rubber exports hit USD328M in eight months

XINHUA – Cambodia made USD328.3 million in revenue from exports of natural rubber latex in the first eight months of 2024, up 15.5 per cent from USD284.1 million over the same period 2023, an official report showed yesterday.

The kingdom exported 209,733 tonnes of the commodity during the January-August period this year, up 2.22 per cent from 205,168 tonnes over the same period 2023, said the report of the General Directorate of Rubber.

“A tonne of rubber latex averagely cost USD1,565 during the first eight months of 2024, about USD180 higher than that of the same period last year,” acting-director general of the General Directorate of Rubber Khun Kakada said in the report.

The Southeast Asian nation exports the commodity mainly to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and China.

According to the report, Cambodia has so far planted rubber trees in a total area of 407,172 hectares, in which the trees on 320,184 hectares, or 78.6 per cent, are old enough to be tapped.
