Cambodia extends school year by one month

THE PHNOM PENH POST/ANN – Cambodia Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport extended the 2021-2022 academic year, originally scheduled to end on October 31, an additional month to November 30, citing disruptions in learning in the first half of the year due largely to the spread of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

In a letter dated August 22 and addressed to the education departments across the country, Minister Hang Chuon Naron said that to ensure the quality of students’ education and fill gaps in their learning, the ministry sees the need to delay the academic year by
one month.

“Learning did not happen smoothly, as there was no full-time study from February to the end of April, due to the coronavirus. The ministry will issue guidelines for the academic year shortly,” said the letter.
