PHNOM PENH (XINHUA) – Cambodia had exported a total of 338,654 tonnes of milled rice in the first half of 2024, earning a total of USD247.6 million, the Cambodia Rice Federation said in a news release yesterday.
Some 51 companies had shipped milled rice to 63 countries and regions during the January-June period this year, the news release said, adding that China remained one of the main buyers of the commodity.
The kingdom exported 75,398 tonnes of milled rice to China during the period, making a gross revenue of USD47 million, it said.
Rice varieties the Southeast Asian country exported include fragrant rice, white rice, parboiled rice and organic rice, among others, according to the news release.
Undersecretary of state and spokeswoman for Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Im Rachna, said China is one of the key markets for Cambodian potential agricultural products.
“The purchase of our agricultural products by China and other friendly countries have importantly contributed to the development of Cambodia’s agricultural sector and brought a lot of benefits to Cambodian people, particularly farmers,” she told Xinhua.
