On my way to work recently, I was horrified to see a group of students attempt to cross a busy road to get to the school bus.
The incident happened in Kampong Parit, along Jalan Mulaut Limau Manis at 6.40am, when people tend to drive fast to beat the morning rush.
I am not quite sure why the bus did not turn into their simpang to pick them up individually. I’d hate to think that it was a daily routine, with the students knowing precisely where the bus driver would be waiting for them every morning.
I was truly disturbed by the sight and hope that the authority would look into the companies that are in charge of transportation. If a driver is unable to see how dangerous it is to expect these children to run across a busy road to get on the bus, I cannot imagine how he behaves on the road.
Parents should also be vigilant and take notice of how their children are being transported to school and voice their concerns to the school immediately.
It is sad to see students who have to depend on the bus service to put their lives at risk like that.
