Indian Association of Belait (IAB) President Salimo highlighted the many challenges faced by single mothers and orphans, and how the association and the society should strive to sustain their needs as a united community.
He said this at a ceremony to hand over donations to orphans and single mothers in the Belait District hosted by IAB recently.
High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam Alok Amitabh Dimri said, “In understanding the meaning of charity, it is in this annual occasion that we reach out to help those in need as well as to spare a thought for the orphans and single mothers.” High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona highlighted how she had taken interest in the commitment made by the association and agencies involved to help those in need during Ramadhan.
While noting that this year will mark her last year in her tenure as High Commissioner of Bangladesh, she hoped the initiative will continue.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Tahlil and Doa Selamat led by Ahmeddani bin Haji Abdul Rahman, followed by the handing of donations by the guests to the 40 orphans and 30 single mothers. The donations were in the form of green envelopes as well as goodie bags, the latter provided by YMRM Group of Companies.
The event held at the association’s building at Jalan Bunga Kuning, Seria was also attended by Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad, Head of Religious Officers at the Belait District Religious Affairs Office Mohamad Aliyani bin Ismail, President of the Single Mothers Movement Association (PGIT) Norliha binti Haji Besar, association members, orphans and single mothers.
The association hopes that the ceremony will enliven the holy month of Ramadhan and help prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
