Call to ensure all Muslims receive kurnia dates

Rokiah Mahmud

The calls for better management of the distribution of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s personal gift of dates (kurnia peribadi) are commonly made. This is to ensure that no Muslims in Brunei Darussalam are left out from enjoying the personal gifts of dates when breaking fast.

This was said by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik in a sabda during the launch of the distribution of dates for the month of Ramadhan, 1443 Hijrah yesterday. The event was held at An-Naura Hall, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in the capital.

His Royal Highness said that even though the Sultanate is still experiencing the COVID-19 outbreak, the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah management with strong support from government, private agencies and volunteers will distribute dates according to standard operating procedures set by the authorities.

His Royal Highness said His Majesty’s personal gift of dates is synonymous with the month of Ramadhan and highly anticipated by Brunei residents as the holy month approaches.

His Royal Highness said he was made aware that two years ago, Yayasan management improved logistics by setting up centres at ministries and departments for civil servants and distribution centres for private sector employees aside from the usual distribution through mukim penghulus and village heads for the public.

His Royal Highness said this initiative has smoothened the distribution process while also safeguarding the well-being of involved parties from COVID-19 infections.
