Call to broaden teaching of Al-Quran memorisation

Rokiah Mahmud

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in a sabda yesterday called on the need to broaden and develop the teaching of Al-Quran memorisation techniques as there is growing number of people showing an interest in learning it based on requests at all levels.

Delivering the sabda on the occasion of the 10th Haflut Takharuj of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) at the International Convention Centre in Berakas, His Royal Highness hoped that the development momentum and the interest could become an inspiration for related parties to further expand the access to Hafazan (memorisation) programmes towards the effort to complete the education system and Tadabbur Al-Quran in achieving the Zikir nation aspiration.

His Royal Highness noted that from the number of students entering ITQSHHB, only a handful obtained the Diploma. However, even with a limited number of graduates, His Royal Highness expressed confidence that the quality of education and the blessings of Al-Quran will guarantee their future as well as safety, while the country will be safeguarded from calamities.

“Tahfiz Al-Quran studies and Qira’at mastery inherited from the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions, are still relevant until today.

“The teaching,” according to His Royal Highness, “has given impact, blessings and benefits towards perpetuating various branches of Islamic studies specifically as the core in Syariah and Usuluddin knowledge.

His Royal Highness also noted that there are several private study centres pioneered by local entrepreneurs including those who have been accredited by the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) offering studies to the public.

With the growing number of ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma alumni, His Royal Highness hoped that Tahfiz and Qira’at Al-Quran studies will be able to be expanded to all levels of society, indirectly helping meet the goal of ITQSHHB, particularly in producing Huffaz who are professional, viable as well as versatile. They also have the potential to shoulder the role as entrepreneurs, Islamic preachers and community leaders strongly holding on to the blessings of life while attaining reward as well as Syafa’at from Al-Quran.

His Royal Highness congratulated the ITQSHHB graduates on their success and hoped that Al-Quran memorisation and Qira’at knowledge will be fully utilised.
