I am writing in response to a news article, ‘Search on for missing Temburong swimmer’, published in the Bulletin yesterday.
Going by the photos provided by the authorities, the river looked nothing more than a stream. However, from my understanding, there are rapids at specific times of the day. It is quite possible that the missing person was in water during one of the treacherous periods.
As such, I would like to appeal to the authorities to consider mandating the use of life jackets while swimming in rivers and seas to ensure the safety of the public.
