Call for use of digital tools in public services

I had my identity card (IC) renewed recently and was instructed to pick it up in a month. So I took some time off work to collect my IC yesterday.

After presenting the receipt to the man at the counter, I waited a moment before I was told that my card was not ready yet. I tried to reason with him that the pick-up date was clearly stated on the receipt to no avail.

I’m less frustrated by the card not being ready on time than the fact that someone at the agency could have left me a text or an e-mail regarding the delay. We are living in the digital age, after all.

I have been told to wait another month but even then, will it be ready? Will I waste another half-day leave from work for nothing again?

I hope the authorities could look into encouraging the use of digital tools to better serve the public.
