Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Salleh Bostaman bin Haji Zainal Abidin said there is a need to disseminate information about the national budget to the community and how it can deal with national agendas and their key performance indicators to eradicate poverty and reduce unemployment.
He also called on transparency of the budget breakdowns.
Speaking at the 19th LegCo session, Yang Berhormat Haji Salleh Bostaman said “The public would ask, ‘what is in the budget for me and why should I be excited about this budget?’ The content of the government budget can be lost in translation.”
He added, “I was overwhelmed by the initiative to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and inquired whether such an initiative takes into account lessons learnt from previous FDI. We need to review the terms and conditions to ensure that there are in line with the current trends. The FDI should supplement our strengths to achieve Brunei Vision 2035. FDI should focus on attaining the national vision, to promote our halal brand and provide employment opportunities.”
