I find it concerning that despite the number of letters published in the Opinion page, calling for the authorities to come up with a lasting solution to the stray animal issue, the problem remains.
As a resident of Kampong Jangsak, stray dogs have been a constant source of stress. They would rummage through our garbage bins and litter the compounds with rubbish. As a result, the residential area has become a cesspool of flies and foul smell.
While I don’t blame the animals for their behaviours, as they are desperate to find food to fill their stomachs, there has to be a way to deal with the issue.
At present, it appears as though only non-profit organisations are trying to tackle the issue.
But should it be up to these volunteers, as well as the public, to sort it out?
I hope to see a more concerted effort to deal with the issue, once and for all. Perhaps more campaigns to encourage responsible pet ownership or harsh penalties for the irresponsible ones. Whichever route we do take, we need to make sure everyone is on the same page.
