Call for resumption of night sessions at tennis centre

I would like to add on to Hooper’s letter, ‘Call for return of local sport competitions’, published in the Bulletin on May 18, by asking the authorities to consider extending the opening hours at the National Tennis Centre.

Now that public schools have re-opened their doors to students and the mask mandate is limited to indoors, it may be time to allow tennis enthusiasts to return to playing the sport they love.

At present, it is near impossible for those of us who have full-time jobs in the private sector to play tennis during the week.

The tennis centre opens from 8am to 6pm, while our working hours are almost identical. Weekends are usually fully booked, and the only available slots appear to be between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is the strongest.

Some may say, “Pick another sport”; but for the time, effort and money that we have poured into the sport, it seems odd to see it as a solution to our dilemma.

I hope the authorities could hear our plight and allow the return of night sessions, so we could focus on improving our health through our sport of choice.
