Call for more public rubbish bins

1718

I would like to applaud the authorities for the success of the recent get-together ceremonies to mark the 77th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang  Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. As a spectacle of the field performances in the capital, I was filled with pride for the grand showcase of the people’s love for our monarch.

However, due to the high turnout, a lot of trash was generated that day, more than the number of rubbish bins in the vicinity to accommodate it. I noticed quite a few people resorted to littering the streets instead of hunting down a bin to discard their trash.

While I understand that increasing the number of rubbish bins doesn’t necessarily solve our littering problem, having them around during national celebrations could at least make a few of them think twice about dumping it on the ground.
