The theme of International Nurses Day 2023, ‘Our Nurses Our Future’, emphasised that nurses should be respected and valued.
This was said by Gleneagles JPMC Director of Nursing Chandra Devi Durairajoo during the healthcare provider’s event at Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Bengkurong yesterday.
She said nurses are uniquely positioned to address the complex challenges healthcare systems face today, from pandemics to the growing burden of chronic illnesses.
“They bring a wealth of knowledge, skills and expertise to their work essential to ensure that patients receive high-quality, safe and effective care,” she added.
She said although International Nurses Day is primarily focussed on celebrating and appreciating the contributions of nurses, the vital role other healthcare professionals play in the healthcare system should also be appreciated.
“We work hand in hand to provide patients with the best care,” the director said.
The event began with a handwashing demonstration and Zumba dance with the nurses from Gleneagles JPMC. Pusat Ehsan children’s parents were also briefed on basic first aid and given guidance on how to respond to epilepsy and choking occurences.
The centre’s children were treated to a role play of doctors and patients in a clinic aimed at educating them how patients are diagnosed and treated. The children also enjoyed the fun-filled activities including dancing and singing.
Pusat Ehsan Executive Trustee Datin Hajah Noraini binti Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin and Gleneagles JPMC Chief Operating Officer ‘Izzul Hamzi bin Haji Jomari were also present at the event.
The International Nurses Day is celebrated every May 12.
