Call for investment in advanced medical tech for diagnosis

Investing on advanced technology to improve medical diagnostics is vital to be in the forefront of healthcare, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said.

The minister said this at the launch of Jerudong Park Medical Centre’s (JPMC) Artificial Intelligence (AI) Diabetic Retinopathy screening at the JPMC Ophthalmology Clinic yesterday.

Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar who is also the Director of JPMC and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health (MoH) Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin had their eyes tested under the new AI Diabetic Retinopathy screening.

Visiting consultant ophthalmologist at JPMC Dr Hajah Helena binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Hurairah said, “We are excited to be part of this innovation and explore the endless possibilities of improving our diagnosis as ophthalmologists, allowing better health for our patients.”

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the MoH Dr Ang Swee Hui and representatives from the MoH were among those present.

One in three people with diabetes is diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy, making it one of the most common diabetes complications.
