Call for improvement to public transportation

I am writing with regard to public transportation in Brunei. I personally believe, many of us are not really making use of this service. And there are many reasons for this.

I am not wrong to say that many of the locals prefer to use our own private cars. We are aware that at one house, the car park garage will have over two to three cars in most cases.

This perhaps is because of the poor public transportation service. As a result, we have no choice but to obtain loans to purchase cars.

As a business owner, one reason why employees cannot be hired is because of transport problems. I also understand that some will say that we are too lazy to walk and prefer to use private cars.

But one of the real reasons may be due to the non-availability of a proper pavement for pedestrians in most areas, like in Kampong Pancha Delima, where the road is very narrow and impossible for pedestrians to walk. When a car approaches from the opposite direction, we have to wait for the car from the opposite direction to pass first before resuming our journey.

The stray dog problem also may be a cause for many of us being afraid of walking along the road to get a bus.

The bus schedule is also very poor while the buses need to be more comfortable as well. Some chairs are in poor condition, and I feel tourists who rely on our buses might not be impressed by Brunei’s public transport.

We Bruneians use the private transport when we are overseas because the service is good. If the service is good here, I am sure we all will be only too happy to use the private bus for most of our journeys. Over to the authorities.
