Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said repair works on two submarine cables damaged since late December last year are expected to be done in the middle or the end of the month.

He said this in response to the public concern on the Internet capacity, in line with the anticipated shift to online learning next week. “Hopefully this will bring back the increased Internet capacity for us.”

He also shared that the original Internet capacity for the Sultanate before the damages was actually two-fold and the unexpected damages have caused disruptions to connectivity.

“Currently, our capacity can accommodate online learning sessions, which will be conducted during daytime.

“It is when everyone goes home in the evening and Internet usage traffic is heavier that we will experience lags,” he said.
