Building confidence through stage performance

Seri Mulia Sarjana School (SMSS) students turned the stage to mark the Music and Dance Festival 2023 recently at the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association headquarters building in Beribi, Gadong.

The event provided students with an opportunity to celebrate the musical achievements and progress of Sarjanians, develop their confidence, meet new people and step out of their comfort zone.

The festival also celebrated the students’ musical talents and creative skills in choreography as well as conceptualise, edit and perform on stage.

Cemerlang student Syasya Lyana binti Jamaludin of Year 5 won the heart of judges with her performance of Sheila making her the champion of the primary school category of a singing contest.

Meanwhile, The Duo – Nur Rayyana Qalesya binti Roziami of Year 5B and Ayesha Nur Sumayyah binti Mohamad Shahrul of Year 3D – snatched the top spot of the dance competition. Acel Gabriella Ladica Vasquez of Year 7B performed The Little Nightingale and took the top spot for the secondary school category of the singing segment while in the dancing segment, it was won by the Sha Mao Gou group made up of Grace Lee Pei Chen of Year 10A, Liew Wen Xian of Year 10D and Marchya Tirena Simanjuntak of Year 10C.

The performers were judged by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Nurul Amal Munjiatul Athirah binti Pengiran Sura Negara Pengiran Anak Haji Muhammed Bey Muntassir, film producer and founder of Mahakarya Institute of the Arts, and resident filmmaker at Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia Chan Man Ching as well as Head of Seri Mulia Sarjana International School (SMSIS) Thea de Guzman; EDC founder and Chief Executive Officer Ched Kaith Malabayabas Vallejos; Del Mar Virtuosa Music School owner Marieta Eugenia Del Mar; SMSIS Head of Music Department Joseph Cabrera; Datu Ratna Haji Muhammad Jaafar Primary School teacher Pengiran Haji Mohd Khairul Amilin bin Pengiran Haji Yahya; Harmony Music School owner Christopher Thomas; and Head of the Performing Arts Department of Sayyidina Husain Secondary School Pengiran Haji Md Shahremi bin Pengiran Haji Md Salleh.
