Building authority orders restaurant closure

James Kon

A restaurant was ordered closed by the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi) during its first operation of the year with other agencies recently.

The eatery was found operating in three units renovated without prior application of Occupation Permit (OP).

Section 16(1)(a) under Building Control Order 2014 stated that no building or parts that underwent renovations should be occupied without OP issued by the ABCi.

Those found guilty of violation can be fined no more than BND20,000, imprisonment of six months or both.

The authority reminded the public that renovations and expansion of premises should be done by authorised qualified person (QP) with valid registration and practice certificate under Board of Architects, Professional Engineers and Quantity Surveyors (BAPEQS), Ministry of Development (MoD).

Construction works should also be carried out by contractors with valid registration under MoD.

Advertising signage should also be done through advertising companies with valid registration and with permission for signs or billboards outside business premises as stipulated by Building Regulations Control (Advertisement, Billboard and Signboard) 2016.
