Brunei Darussalam’s total trade for November 2024 increased by 11.6 per cent to BND1,877.4 million compared to October 2024, driven by exports valued at BND1,153.3 million and imports amounting to BND724.1 million, according to the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS). Mineral fuels remained the largest export contributor at 79.2 per cent, followed by chemicals (16.8 per cent) and manufactured goods (2.2 per cent).
The main export markets were Australia (22.7 per cent), followed by China (14.8 per cent) and Malaysia (11.9 per cent), with mineral fuels and chemicals as the top export commodities.
Imports for November 2024 were valued at BND724.1 million, with mineral fuels comprising 62.9 per cent, followed by machinery and transport equipment (11.2 per cent) and food (9.7 per cent). The largest import partners were Malaysia (32.8 per cent), the United Arab Emirates (14.1 per cent), and Saudi Arabia (14.0 per cent) with key imported commodities including mineral fuels, food and chemicals.
The trade balance for November 2024 declined by 3.4 per cent compared to October 2024, attributed to a 17.0 per cent increase in imports.
Imports by end-use category were primarily for intermediate goods (58.6 per cent), followed by capital goods (37.5 per cent) and consumption goods (3.9 per cent).
