Brunei’s Sukma XXI team returns home with 7 medals

Brunei Darussalam’s 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA XXI) contingent returned home on Sunday, bearing a haul of seven medals: two gold, two silver and three bronze.

Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud welcomed the contingent at the Brunei International Airport. 

Brunei won gold in e-sports after Muhd Safwan Hakimi bin Abdullah Husaini, Muhd Daniel Hadhramu Saifuddin bin Muhaimin, Muhd Danish Haqeemr Hizami bin Muhaimin, Mohammad Hadif Fadhil bin Sufari and Md Awie Azhar bin Hamzah emerged triumphant in the PUBG category with 168 points. 

Meanwhile, Wushu exponent Walid Lachkar bagged Brunei’s first gold medal for SUKMA XXI in the men’s daoshu category. Walid also won the nation’s first bronze medal in the event at the men’s changquan event. 

Karate athletes Farhah Syahirah binti Mohamad Shamrin and Awangku Munib Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Hasimudin won two silver medals, with Farhah Syahirah in the women’s individual Kata and Awangku Munib Aiman in the 55kg men’s kumite contest.

National taekwondo exponent Muhammad Abrar bin Haji Bakar won a bronze medal in the kyorugi fin weight category, while Farhin Idlan Mohamad Shamrin, Muhammad Iqbal Asnan, and Muhammad Syahmi Zaffran Bakar also took a bronze medal in the men’s team kata category. – LYNA MOHAMAD
