Bruneians head to Abu Dhabi for technical, vocational skills contest

A Brunei Darussalam contingent yesterday left for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to participate in the second WorldSkills Asia competition.

The contingent led by Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (Academic) Haji Norjemee bin Jenek was seen off by IBTE CEO and Director of Technical Education Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli at the Brunei International Airport.

The competition is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) until December 2.

IBTE will compete in two areas – ‘Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning’ represented by Muhammad Airul Haziq bin Haji Metussin and ‘IT Software Solution for Business’ represented by Muhammad Syahmi bin Iswandy.

WorldSkills Asia aims to provide a platform for policy makers, educators, industry partners, and organisations to exchange thoughts and ideas on innovation, technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The competition can also open up more opportunities in TVET in Asia for youth, employers, and society as well as improve the quality of TVET in Asia by strengthening the relationship between the workforce, the market, employers and the economy. – Azlan Othman
