Bruneians consuming drugs overseas can also be charged

Under Brunei’s law, locals or permanent residents found consuming drugs outside the country can also be charged regardless of where it is consumed.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said in a statement yesterday those found guilty of consuming Class ‘A’ drugs, will face imprisonment of up to 10 years or fine of up to BND20,000, or both.

“Citizens and permanent residents travelling to other countries must be aware of this,” the NCB added.

The NCB said cannabis is still banned in the country and that it is an offence to possess, consume or grow cannabis under the Misuse of Drugs (MDA) Act, Chapter 27.
