Bruneian bags third place medal

Jeremiah Ethan Tan from Sports School Brunei Darussalam made the country proud after finishing third in the recent 27th Merdeka Cup Open Regatta in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

The Malaysian national ranking event, organised by Sabah Sailing Association, attracted 65 sailors from Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore.

Jeremiah, trained in the Royal Brunei Yacht Club, finished second on the leaderboard on the second day of competition. During race five, a collision between Jeremiah and Md Reezmin from the Navy Yacht Club of Kota Kinabalu saw the jury rule in favour of Jeremiah giving him the lead.

Due to light wind conditions on the first day, race officials had decided to hold only two races instead of the scheduled three.

On the final day, a tropical rainstorm in the morning threatened the continuation of the race, but by late morning the weather cleared and the signal to race was given.

In the end, Jeremiah finished third with only one point separating him from second place.
