    Brunei young taekwondo star bags gold in South Korea meet

    Brunei Darussalam’s young taekwondo exponent Juliana Abbas did the nation proud after winning a gold medal in the high jump kick junior 2 event at the 2023 Seognam World Taekwondo Hanmadang in South Korea yesterday.

    The local athlete, who performed under the banner Unite Taekwondo Club based in Tanjong Bunut, finished ahead of her rivals from Mexico and Bolivia.

    The World Taekwondo Hanmadang is a festival which brings together taekwondo practitioners from all across the world to showcase their expertise in martial arts.

    The Hanmadang, which incorporates essentials of martial arts such as breaking, self-defence and poomsae, is organised by Kukkiwon, also known as the World Taekwondo Headquarters.

    This year’s world championship involved the participation of athletes from 58 countries. – Fadhil Yunus
