Brunei win one silver, two bronze in Deka Fit

Brunei Darussalam became a part of obstacle course racing history after bagging one silver and two bronze medals in the first-ever Deka Fit Sarawak 2022 at the Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching, Sarawak yesterday.

Local competitor Nordi Haji Abdul Halim clinched silver in the male 35-39 years age group category after recording a time of 48:08s while his compatriot Raimi Azmansham took bronze with a time of 52:39s.

Meanwhile, Feby Latip claimed the bronze medal in the female 40-44 age group category after registering a time of 1:03:40s.

Nearly 20 participated from Brunei in the competition.

The Deka Fit, an international decathlon of functional fitness competition, is an extension of the Spartan brand.

It is introduced in an indoor format with participants requiring to complete 10 functional zones, which is preceded with a 500-metre distance run.

The functional zones include ram lunges, rower, box stepover, medicine ball sit-up, skier, farmer’s carry, deadball carryover, air bike, tank and lastly ram burpees.

It was first popularised in a number of states in the United States and is known to be suitable for all levels of fitness enthusiasts. The zone sequence and flow saw participants go through a series of basic movements in the early zones, followed by full body focus in the last five zones.

Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman was at the event.

Some 12 countries joined the event including Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, South Africa and hosts Malaysia.
